If a photo isn’t a good fit for restoration, you’ll hear before any work is done.
A magical talent. Elijah took an old, faded and yellowed photo from 1974, and made it look new again.
What gets fixed
Fading
Washed-out prints brought back to full color and contrast.
Color casts
The yellow, orange or magenta tint old color photos turn, corrected.
Dust and scratches
Dust, scratches, spots and small marks cleaned from the scan.
Stains
Light stains and discoloration evened out.
Nothing invented
No colorizing, and no painting in missing areas. What the camera caught is what you get back, restored.
A new print
Restored photos can be printed on archival photo paper at any standard size.
Why restore now
Prints keep changing. Color photos from the 1960s to the 1990s fade and shift as their dyes break down, and the yellowing gets worse every year.
A good scan stops that clock: once the photo is digital and corrected, the file won’t fade, and you can print it again whenever you want.
Drop off or mail it in
Order online first, then get your items to the studio one of two ways.
Drop off in Lafayette
Bring your items to the studio in Lafayette by appointment. You’ll get a time when you order, and a receipt listing everything you left.
Mail it in from anywhere
Pack items snugly in a sturdy box with padding on every side, and put a copy of your order number inside. Use a tracked service. Your originals come back by $5 flat-rate shipping, or free hand delivery in Lafayette and West Lafayette.
Packing tapes and cassettes
Stand tapes upright in their cases, wrap the stack in bubble wrap, and keep them away from speakers and magnets in transit.
Packing photos and slides
Keep photos flat between two pieces of cardboard. Don’t tape, clip or rubber-band them; leave slides in their boxes or sleeves.
Questions
Do I have to send the original?
Not if you already have a good scan. Email a high-resolution scan and it can be restored from that. For the best result, send the original and it will be scanned here.
Will my original photo be changed?
No. All the work is done to the digital copy. Your original comes back exactly as it arrived.
Can you fill in torn or missing areas?
No. Restoration here is non-additive: color, fading, dust and scratches are fixed, but nothing is invented to fill a missing area.
Can you colorize a black and white photo?
No. Black and white photos are cleaned up and kept black and white.
Can I get a new print?
Yes. Restored photos can be printed at any standard size, on archival photo paper.
How do I get my originals back?
By $5 flat-rate shipping, or free hand delivery in Lafayette and West Lafayette. Choose at checkout.
Are my home movies and photos kept private?
Yes. Your items are only handled by Elijah, files are never posted or shared, and copies are deleted from the studio 60 days after delivery.
Is there a discount for large orders?
Yes. For 20 or more items, ask for a bulk quote before you order.
How long does it take?
One to two weeks for most orders, longer around the holidays. If you need it by a date, say so when you order.
